Crowns and Bridges
Crowns
Otherwise known as ‘caps’, crowns are designed to cover the whole tooth, to protect it from fracturing or to enhance its appearance.
Porcelain crowns
Made entirely of porcelain and not as strong as bonded crowns, these can look very natural and are normally used on front teeth.
Bonded crowns
We offer a range of crowns including Bonded crowns which are 2 layered crowns with an inner metal jacket covered with tooth coloured porcelain. Bonded crowns are the most commonly provided crown as these are durable and look very life-like.
Full gold crowns
Gold is used for other metal alloys to increase its strength. Gold crowns are very
hard wearing and they can be silver or gold in colour, usually placed on back teeth.
Ceramic crowns
Ceramic crowns are a metal free alternative to conventional crowns they have the strength of a bonded crown and the appearance of a porcelain crown. These are normally used for a more aesthetic result on front teeth.
Bridges
These are provided to replace a missing tooth and they can be constructed of the same materials as crowns.
Bridges may require the teeth either side of the gap to be covered over completely, like crowns, or they may just require a small wing bonded to the teeth either side of the gap, these are much more conservative of tooth structure and do not alter the front of the adjacent teeth. These are called ‘Maryland Bridges’
We will advise you of all the pros and cons of each type of bridge as well as discussing alternative options to fill a gap from a missing tooth.
